about

There is an intuitive quality to the way the parts interact in the music of Trichotomy. A subconscious & inherent understanding of the interplay within the trio; developed through years of performances & shared musical experience.

With a strong history as the trio Misinterprotato, this group now reinvent themselves as Trichotomy. They signify their step toward the future with FACT FINDING MISSION, their new album of original music, brimming with a sense of vitality and vigour. Musically assured, with a clear sense of direction, it places them at the forefront of modern creative jazz –inventive & fascinating with a remarkable sense of group creativity.

Tracking live to tape & recording over 120 minutes of material for the album, the resulting release is a selection of the most absorbing material created by the trio.

The core instruments of piano, bass and drums feature throughout, but are joined by Tunji Beier – Percussion, Linsey Pollak – reeds, and James Muller – Guitar, on works that augment the ensemble, enhancing the music to incorporate elements from European and Indian folk traditions.

Influences are varied, from John Zorn to Tord Gustavsen, but most clearly the trio sound like themselves, assured with their style and sound.

Immediately warm with crisp melodies, flowing bass lines and finely textured rhythmic layers the music has a keen awareness of its audience. Jazz inspired but captivating with its musical clarity and sense of place, FACT FINDING MISSION is an album of strong music vision, content, depth and diversity.

Modern, contemporary, improvised music that celebrates the trio sound.
